MarinaVillage brings jobs, other economic benefits Opening this month, Cape Coral’s first waterfront resort is driving growth Grosse Pointe Development Company’s newest real estate venture has created hundreds of jobs over the past two years and will surely boost tourism and other spending in Southwest Florida well into the future. With the November 1 opening of MarinaVillage, all eyes are on the $160 million-plus project that includes a hotel with vacation-home fractional ownerships, retail shops, waterfront restaurants, a day spa, professional office space, resort amenities, and a six-story parking garage. MarinaVillage is one of six neighborhoods in Tarpon Point Marina, on the southwest tip of Cape Coral where the Caloosahatchee River meets San Carlos Bay.

Most of the jobs were created in 2007 when construction began on The Resort at MarinaVillage, a 19-story Residence Club resort and full-service hotel that is the heart and soul of MarinaVillage. More employees were then needed to build the retail and commercial portions of the village, and most recently, some 150 people have been hired to staff the hotel, restaurants and banquet facilities at MarinaVillage.

The Resort at MarinaVillage is poised to give the economy a boost when homebuyers purchase the resort’s fully furnished, two- and three-bedroom luxury homes. Fractional ownerships in this 184-home tower offers homebuyers deeded ownership in 1/12th fractions.

“What’s nice about fractional ownership is that it reduces the homebuyer’s financial outlay, yet gives them all the benefits of home ownership,” said Robert Hensley, CEO of the Fort Myers-based developer Grosse Pointe Development Company. “In these tough economic times, shared-ownership is an advantage, so we fully anticipate that The Resort at MarinaVillage will fill the growing need. It really is the smart way to buy.”

Commercial leasing opportunities also figure into the economic impact, and as new residents and visitors come to Cape Coral, a boost in tourism spending and an influx of other money into the local economy is expected to follow.
“Think about the homeowners and visitors from around the world who will be spending money in local businesses throughout Southwest Florida,” Hensley said. “That’s an economic trickle-down that we’re really excited about.”

You have to see it to believe it!!! This is a dream come true. What an unbelievable thing that is happening here in this economy. Cape Coral, Florida gets a 4 star hotel Resort, on the water!! It has created jobs for many years and has never asked for any tax relief or economic benefits. Quite the contrary!!! The Resort at Marina Village is something that the entire city and surrounding cities should be proud of. This will change the face of Cape Coral and Fort Myers forever!!
